I cannot remember if every year starts off with as much change as this one or not. Substantial changes are happening all around us, on almost every front; job losses/changes, political changes, sociological changes, and legislative changes. There are so many changes, that it can seem like life is swirling out of control.
It is interesting to observe how people deal with change. Some embrace it, others abhor it. Some are invigorated by it and others feel a tremendous weight as a result of it.
I have noticed, how we react to change is a choice. It is all but trite to say that you cannot do anything to stop it and it seems inevitable that it will keep coming. New laws, new regulations, new technology… my prediction (and I hardly claim to be Nostradamus) is that it will indeed keep coming.
I am finding early in the year, people around me lamenting the changes to the point of stifling their own growth. I want to say this in the clearest way that I know how: Your response to the changes around you, are either going to be a competitive advantage or a competitive disadvantage – you get to choose.
We live in a free country – God bless the USA. But with that freedom comes the ability to choose your own responses and reactions to everything that comes your way. If you choose to argue, despise, complain, fight or otherwise rally against inevitable change you must know that you are expressing a freedom to do so.
No one plans to lose a job, or have difficult family situations arise, however it is this very freedom to respond to these situations that can either bring us clarity or trap us in a self-made prison.
You do not have to fake your feelings and pretend that you love all of the changes but I beg us all to see that responding positively to change is nothing shy of an advantage over all of those who don’t. Please, do not underestimate the power of your response. Choose to make it a great day!

Most of the time I love change, I believe it invigrates our brain waves and keeps us thinking, planning, living in a bigger way. Thanks Steve!
