We have all heard of counterintelligence. The FBI and other organizations in the US and abroad employ such agencies “thwarting the efforts of an enemy's intelligence agents to gather information or commit sabotage”.
Certainly that is a broad definition of what counter intelligence is all about, but lately I have found a need to share with many clients a plan for “counter intuition”. I doubt anyone will go off and form a government agency over it, but counter intuition comes into play frequently in business and in life.
A perfect example of using counter intuition is in the realm of trust.
We are in some shaky times these days, and the recession, for many, makes it quite easy to develop these qualities without even knowing you’re doing it. There are some staggering legislative things happening, and it can cause even the brightest people to become dull as they acquiesce to the situations that repeatedly get them down.
I say you should never let anyone or any situation ever get you to the point where your soul becomes jaded, even at the risk of being slightly vulnerable. Because when we do become jaded, we lose much more than what the situation warranted – we lose the pieces of us that make us attractive to others.
It is so intuitive to react this way and easy to justify why you are down and guarded. This is why we need counter intuition. Fight back! Do not carry burdens or anger.
I am not proposing that you become gullible and lack all discernment, I am only suggesting that when we allow our own hearts to become jaded we may lose something bigger than we ever thought possible.
Don’t let it happen. Trust is a great thing even when your intuition tells you not to.
